For the first time, Kyrgyzstan’s funding request to the Global Fund includes expanded interventions from the community of prisoners and people released from prisons under the new funding cycle.
The regional consultants of the Eurasian Movement for the Right to Health in Prisons in Kyrgyzstan managed to ensure the participation of the community members through the entire drafting process of the national application, beginning with the collection of needs and setting the priorities, ending with the submission of the interventions to the technical expert group for their further consideration.
As a result, most of the interventions proposed by the community have been included in the final version of the funding request to the Global Fund.
Thus, in 2024-2026 Kyrgyzstan will receive allocated funds to implement interventions aimed at meeting the key needs of the community, namely:
- support for NGOs that provide services for the community of prisoners;
- provision of an expanded medical care package for prisoners, including (except for ART, OAT, and NSP) diagnosis and treatment of STIs and hepatitis;
- provision of social patronage services for people released from prisons;
- provision of temporary shelters for people released from prisons.
It should be noted that for the first time ever the community of prisoners and people released from prisons could provide interventions regarding the penitentiary system as a separate complex to the Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM).
