A delegation from Ukraine visited Moldova to exchange experience on organizing medical and social work with drug-dependent inmates in penitentiary institutions.
The visit involved representatives from:
- Ministry of Justice of Ukraine
- Department of Criminal Sentence Execution
- Healthcare Center of the State Criminal Executive Service of Ukraine
- Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine
- Charity organization FREE ZONE
During the visit, the Ukrainian side familiarized themselves with the work of preventive programs for drug users among the inmates, including substitution therapy, needle exchange, and rehabilitation based on the Therapeutic Community “Positive Initiative” in correctional colony (Drug-Free programs).
The participants of the delegation shared their experience in implementing harm reduction services in penitentiary institutions and discussed bilateral cooperation to expand similar programs.
The visit was organized by the Eurasian Movement for the Right to Health in Prisons (EMRHP) in collaboration with the public organization “Positive Initiative” (Moldova) as part of the project “Promoting Health Rights in Prisons of EECA Countries” supported by the Robert Carr Fund.
